Charlie Whiting Declares Baku City Circuit Ready To Race!
FIA Race Director delivers positive verdict ahead of 2017 F1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix
FIA Formula One Race Director and Safety Delegate, Charlie Whiting, returned to Baku today to inspect the readiness of Baku City Circuit (BCC) ahead of the 2017 FORMULA 1 AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX - the second successive F1 race weekend to be held in the city on the weekend of June 23rd - 25th.
Ahead of his visit, BCC has already successfully completed most of the necessary preparatory work for the 2017 Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix and has worked non-stop to ensure that every last detail will be in place before June 23rd.
The inspection, taking place just a few weeks before the world’s greatest drivers take on the challenge of F1’s fastest street circuit, saw Whiting evaluate the quality of the track and its surrounding facilities to ensure it is fit for the purpose of hosting another Formula 1 Grand Prix race. After carrying out a thorough inspection, Whiting delivered a positive endorsement of the newest track on the F1 calendar:
“I’m delighted to see how much of Baku City Circuit is already complete with only a few weeks to go until the next F1 race takes place on these beautiful streets. I came back to make sure that everything is being well prepared for the next Grand Prix race here. There were little things to address from the previous race, so I am here today to make sure that we all have the same understanding of these things. We spent several hours walking around the track examining every bit of it and I was happy to see that everything is being very well organized. I am sure I am not alone in looking forward to coming back to Baku for the second successive F1 race weekend here in a few weeks and seeing F1 cars race arounds this highly impressive circuit once again.”
