STATEMENT BY BAKU CITY CIRCUIT ON ROAD RESTRICTIONS THROUGHOUT THE RACE WEEK

FORMULA 1 AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX

The Baku City Circuit Operations Company (BCC) made a statement to the press regarding traffic during the 2023 Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, which will take place on April 28-30.

According to the approved Traffic Management Plan, the roads within Baku City Circuit and the areas around the track will be closed for traffic starting from 01:00 am on 24th April till 08:00 am on 2nd May.

"Traffic restriction will be applied in 3 zones. The first zone is the territory of Icherisheher surrounded by the circuit, the second zone is Azadlig Square and other streets located near it, and the third zone is the territory surrounding the 50th Anniversary of the United Nations Street. During the competition, the entrance and exit of transport to the mentioned areas will be provided on the basis of "Residential Access Permit". Owners of vehicles living or working in these zones will be able to obtain the permit free of charge” - said Turab Teymurov, National Press Officer of BCC. The spokesperson of BCC advised the drivers to use alternative routes.

The territory of the event is conventionally divided into 3 zones where Event-related traffic restrictions or changes will take place.

Zone 1 - covers the territory of the Old City "Icherisheher"

Zone 2 - includes the territory of Azadliq Square and adjacent streets.

Zone 3 - covers the territory of the Park of Waterfalls, the Cabinet of Ministers of the Azerbaijan Republic, and adjacent streets.

 

The granting of the vehicle access to these zones will be provided based on special passes - Resident Access Permit (RAP). The Resident Access Permit will be distributed among the residents living in locations & areas impacted by the Event-related activities and individuals having constant businesses at the mentioned locations. The issuance of this pass is free of charge. To get a pass, the applicant has to get in touch with one of the distribution offices depending on the applicant's residence or business allocation.

Please note that in case of loss or damage, it wouldn't be replaced. Pass distribution timeframe is April 10, 2023 - April 28, 2023, during Monday - Friday from 10:00 till 17:00. This pass is a self-adhesive sticker, and upon receipt needs to be affixed to the front windscreen of the vehicle's interior side.

On the eve and during the event, pedestrians will be able to freely move around the competition area using the pedestrian overbridges and underground passways. Pedestrian overbridges will be installed and being activated close to the Race-week at the following locations:

 

1.     The intersection of Azerbaijan Avenue and Istiglaliyat Street.

2.     The intersection of Khagani and Rashid Behbudov streets.

3.     The intersection of Azadlig Avenue and Khagani Street.

4.     The intersection of Rashid Behbutov street with Neftchiler avenue.

 

Neftchilar Avenue from Azneft Square to the Marine Passenger Terminal and Istiglaliyyat Street from Sheikh Shamil Street to Azerbaijan Avenue will remain open to traffic but only at certain times starting Monday, April 24 to Saturday, April 29. On April 24-25-26, these areas will be open to traffic from 07:00am to 09:00am and from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with stopping or parking strictly prohibited.  

Subsequently, on April 27, Neftchilar Avenue from Azneft Square to the Marine Passenger Terminal will be open from 07:00am to 09:00am, and 8:00pm to 10:00 p.m. On April 28-29, vehicle access will be from 8:00pm to 10:00 p.m only. 

It is crucial to highlight that the above-mentioned streets can only be used as a transit corridor. Stopping or parking on these streets is prohibited for safety reasons.

In addition, the use of certain vehicles such as trucks and public transport is strictly prohibited. The speed limit on the mentioned roads is set at 50 km/h.

Traffic control on these roads will be regulated by BCC and local relevant authorities.
