The milestone 10th Azerbaijan Grand Prix proved to be one of the biggest Formula 1 events ever held in Baku, with a record number of international visitors, a complete ticket sell-out and fans from more than 120 countries.
More than 17,000 international fans watched the Formula 1 action live from the grandstands at Baku City Circuit — the highest figure recorded since Formula 1 first came to the Azerbaijani capital. All tickets released for sale for the Grand Prix were sold out, while the four-day race weekend recorded around 92,000 visits in total.
The event’s international reach also continued to grow, with fans from more than 120 countries purchasing tickets for the 2026 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The Chinese market showed particularly strong growth this year.
The increasing popularity of Formula 1 in Baku has also driven the continued development of spectator infrastructure. To meet growing demand, four new grandstands have been added at Baku City Circuit over the past three years, increasing total grandstand capacity by more than 6,000 seats.
Another new grandstand — City — was introduced this year, taking the overall grandstand capacity at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix to more than 21,000 spectators.
The entertainment zone on Baku Boulevard was another major attraction during the race weekend, welcoming more than 25,000 fans on individual days. Concert programmes held over two evenings attracted a combined audience of around 40,000 spectators.
The milestone Grand Prix also generated significant international media attention. Around 300 local and international media representatives covered the event on site, while live coverage was broadcast across 56 international television channels and platforms. International media attention extended well beyond the action on track, with features showcasing Baku as well as Azerbaijani culture and traditions appearing throughout the Grand Prix weekend.
Hosting an event of this scale in the heart of Baku also requires particular attention to keeping the city moving throughout the Grand Prix. Traffic management remains one of the key priorities. In 2026, access through the city centre was further improved with the introduction of an additional transit corridor. Immediately after the race, dismantling work began and roads were reopened in stages.
“Hosting Formula 1 in the city centre requires particular attention to traffic management. Our goal is to minimise the impact of temporary restrictions on everyday movement around the city. During Grand Prix week, we therefore maintain traffic corridors along key routes and, drawing on the experience gained each year, continue to expand the options available to motorists.
“Just as importantly, we aim to restore normal traffic conditions as quickly as possible once the race is over. This year, almost all road restrictions had been lifted by 12:30 the following day. It is important for us that the city returns to its normal rhythm as quickly as possible after the Grand Prix,” said Maksud Farzullayev, CEO of Baku City Circuit Operations Company.
But above all, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix once again delivered on track.
The 10th Formula 1 race in Baku produced drama, tension and plenty of surprises, once again living up to Baku City Circuit’s famous slogan: Expect the Unexpected.
George Russell became the eighth different driver to win at Baku City Circuit. The statistic underlines just how unpredictable racing in Baku has been: across ten Formula 1 races, only two drivers have managed to win here more than once.
Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen have each claimed two victories in Baku, while every other winner has stood on the top step of the Baku City Circuit podium only once.
Ten races on, Baku remains a place where both the course of the Grand Prix and its eventual winner are difficult to predict. The milestone edition was no exception, once again delivering the kind of intrigue and unpredictability that have become hallmarks of Baku City Circuit.
The 10th Azerbaijan Grand Prix added another memorable chapter to Baku’s Formula 1 story.
