British Ambassador Attends Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix

Duncan Norman, His Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of Azerbaijan, attended the 10th edition of the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku.

During his visit, the Ambassador toured the newly upgraded Baku City Circuit paddock and visited the Media Centre. He was briefed on the facilities provided for media representatives and was shown the Accreditation Centre, the photographers’ area and the press conference room. Around 300 local and international media representatives are working from the Media Centre during the Grand Prix.

Duncan Norman also spoke to local journalists and shared his impressions of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. He highlighted the unique character of the Baku City Circuit, which runs through the heart of the capital, bringing together Baku’s modern architecture and historic landmarks.

According to the Ambassador, one of the distinctive features of racing in Baku is that spectators can not only follow the action on track but also discover the city and its landmarks.

“Five British drivers are competing in Formula 1 this season, two of whom are world champions. I wish them all the best and would be delighted to see one of the British drivers win here in Baku,” Duncan Norman said.

The United Kingdom holds a special place in Formula 1 history. The first Formula 1 World Championship race was held at Britain’s Silverstone Circuit in 1950, and the country remains one of the sport’s major centres today.

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix will take place today at 15:00.
