Baku, Azerbaijan – The countdown is officially on. Only two months left until the Formula 1 Qatar Airways Azerbaijan Grand Prix, taking place in Baku from September 19–21! As the race weekend approaches, the city is already beginning to echo the roar of engines and the pulse of world-class motorsport in the air.
The Baku City Circuit made its debut on the Formula 1 calendar in 2016, hosting a round of the World Championship for the very first time. Since then, it has delivered unforgettable moments year after year. The Azerbaijan Grand Prix has evolved into more than just a showcase of speed and competition—it's become a one-of-a-kind event where motorsport meets the soul of the city and its vibrant culture.
The Azerbaijan Grand Prix was first held in 2016 under the name "European Grand Prix", and from the very start, it captured the hearts of Formula 1 fans with its intense on-track action and electric city atmosphere. Over the years, the race in Baku has consistently delivered season-defining moments, becoming a standout fixture on the F1 calendar.
From Sebastian Vettel’s clash with Lewis Hamilton in 2017, to Valtteri Bottas’ heartbreak in 2018 after a puncture in the final corners, and the chaotic scenes of 2021—featuring Max Verstappen’s high-speed crash and Hamilton’s rare late-race mistake—Baku has consistently proven itself to be a circuit defined by its unpredictability, drama, and game-changing moments.
In 2023, the Baku race weekend introduced a revamped format, with the Sprint Race and Qualifying held on separate days—making the Azerbaijan Grand Prix one of the most distinctive events of the season. That year, Red Bull Racing’s Sergio Perez claimed victory in Baku for the second time, solidifying his status as one of the circuit’s most successful and consistent drivers.
The Azerbaijan Grand Prix is much more than just a race—it has become a major cultural event that plays a significant role in the city’s vibrant social life. Over the years, alongside the on-track action, world-renowned artists have taken to the stage in spectacular concerts. Stars such as Chris Brown, Enrique Iglesias, The Black Eyed Peas, Dua Lipa, Jamiroquai, and Cardi B have performed live in Baku, entertaining tens of thousands of fans and adding unforgettable energy to the race weekend experience.
This year’s edition promises to raise the bar even further both on the sporting front and in terms of organizational innovations. Set in the heart of the city, the Baku City Circuit—which weaves through landmarks including Icherisheher (Old City), Freedom Square, and the Baku Boulevard—offers a unique blend of speed, technical precision, and strategic complexity. Fans can look forward to an action-packed race weekend filled with interactive fan zones, live music performances, and surprises around every corner.
The 2025 Formula 1 Qatar Airways Azerbaijan Grand Prix is set to be a highlight of the season—and a weekend that fans will not want to miss.
With just two months to go, all eyes are once again on Baku. The world’s fastest drivers, most powerful teams, and millions of fans are set to reunite in the capital of Azerbaijan. The countdown has begun—this autumn, Baku is preparing to become the capital of Formula 1 once again.
