The opening free practice session of the Formula 1 Qatar Airways Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2025 has concluded at the Baku City Circuit. As soon as the green light appeared at the end of the pit lane, the world’s fastest drivers took to the streets of the capital.
Among the weekend’s main favorites, McLaren’s Lando Norris set the fastest lap and topped the session with a time of 1:42.704. His teammate and current championship leader Oscar Piastri finished second, just 0.310 seconds adrift. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc completed the top three with a time of 1:43.256.
The session was briefly red-flagged after Carlos Sainz made a sharp move at Turn 16, causing debris from his car to scatter onto the track. Following the marshals’ swift intervention, the practice resumed under green flags.
At 16:00, the F1 drivers will return for the second practice session, which will wrap up the opening day of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
In the evening, fans can look forward to a spectacular performance by one of the brightest names in electronic music – Anyma. His futuristic audiovisual show, which has captivated audiences at world-renowned festivals such as Tomorrowland and Coachella, will add a special touch to Baku’s nightlife as part of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2025.
