The countdown has begun for the Formula 1 Qatar Airways Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2025, which will take place in the capital city from 19–21 September. During race week, the roar of engines will once again echo through the streets of Baku as the city transforms into the center of world motorsport.
More than 12,000 foreign tourists are expected to visit Baku for the event. According to official statistics, over 80 percent of last year’s spectators were international visitors. Many fans traveled to the capital not only to attend the race, but simply to experience the unique Formula 1 atmosphere. Figures released by Formula 1 show that 55 percent of fans are ready to recommend the Azerbaijan Grand Prix to their friends, while 72 percent plan to return within the next two years.
On average, each foreign spectator spends more than USD 2,200, making the Grand Prix a powerful driver for tourism and business. In 2024, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix attracted an audience of 86 million live viewers, while 3.9 billion people engaged with the race across various platforms.
To meet the growing demand, two new grandstands were built for 2025. Tickets for 10 of the 12 grandstands have already sold out. The total capacity will exceed 20,000 spectators, further cementing Baku’s place on the Formula 1 map.
Thousands of people are involved in preparations for the race. More than 2,000 engineers, technicians, installers, and logisticians are engaged in construction and installation works. To minimize disruption for residents, most of the work is carried out overnight. During race week, this workforce will be joined by an additional 1,500 staff, 2,000 volunteers, and 1,400 marshals.
While in the early years much of the work was carried out by international contractors, today the entire process is managed by local companies. This not only creates new jobs but also helps local professionals gain valuable experience. The Grand Prix has therefore become not only a sporting spectacle but also a strong platform for economic development.
Magsud Farzullayev, CEO of Baku City Circuit Operations Company, invites fans to enjoy both the thrilling race and Azerbaijan’s renowned hospitality:
“Last year was truly remarkable, setting new records. Thanks to worldwide interest, the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix has become a must-see event on the racing calendar. The 2025 edition promises to be even more spectacular. With two new grandstands, the event will feature the largest spectator capacity in its history. For the first time, we will host the exclusive Formula 1 Champions Club, offering pit-lane views, paddock tours, and many other unique experiences. This will give even more fans the opportunity to witness the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in person.
The world’s best drivers are returning to Baku, and unforgettable moments await us all! At Baku City Circuit, we remain true to our tradition – always ready for surprises. And if the speed on the track is not enough, just wait for the night: on 19 September, DJ Anyma will light up the Baku Crystal Hall scene, followed by unforgettable performances from global superstars Martin Garrix and Glass Animals on 20 September.”
