McLaren driver Lando Norris has won the Mexico Grand Prix to move ahead of teammate Oscar Piastri at the top of the world championship standings.
The Autodromo Hermanos Rodríguez, known for its unique and challenging conditions, once again tested the drivers’ endurance — and delivered a crucial turning point in the championship battle.
McLaren driver Lando Norris dominated the weekend from the third practice session onward. He produced a stunning lap on his second run in Q3 to take pole position and went on to claim his sixth win of the season, which propelled him to the top of the drivers’ standings.
On Friday, Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen were fastest during practice, but from Saturday onward, it was all about Norris.
The British driver delivered an almost flawless performance, leading from pole and controlling the race with confidence to take his tenth career victory — a truly well-deserved triumph.
This win moved Norris to 357 points, just one ahead of his teammate Oscar Piastri. The Australian struggled throughout the weekend, failing to impress in qualifying but managing to finish fifth in the race. Piastri hasn’t been on the podium for four rounds now — his last win came at the Dutch Grand Prix, and his last podium at Monza (Italy). Both McLaren drivers remain in contention for the championship.
Max Verstappen finished third, and although he couldn’t fight for victory, he managed to close the gap to the leader — now 36 points behind, compared to 40 the week before. With three races remaining, the reigning world champion is still in the hunt, though the battle for the title is getting increasingly intense.
Verstappen could have finished second, but a late Virtual Safety Car denied fans a thrilling showdown with Charles Leclerc, who had an excellent weekend and secured second place.
Leclerc’s podium in Mexico was the 50th of his career, and his result helped Ferrari overtake Mercedes in the Constructors’ Championship — now leading by just a single point.
Special mention goes to Haas driver Oliver Bearman, who finished an impressive fourth — the best result of his career. For Haas, it matched their historic achievement from Romain Grosjean’s P4 in Austria back in 2018.
The next round takes place in Brazil (November 7–9) at the iconic Interlagos Circuit. As the season enters its final stretch, the battle for the championship between Norris, Piastri, and Verstappen is truly heating up.
