Baku City Circuit enters final stages of preparation ahead of  

F1’s fifth visit to the Home of the Street Fighters on June 4th -6th

The countdown is on as the fastest, wildest and most unpredictable street circuit in F1 enters its final stages of preparation ahead of the 5th Formula 1 race weekend to be staged at Baku City Circuit (BCC) on the weekend of June 4th - 6th, 2021.  With only 25 days to go until the pinnacle of motorsport lights up the Home of the Street Fighters, the team at Baku City Circuit are busy adding the finishing touches to the track in time for the return of Formula 1 after a 2 year, Covid- enforced absence. 

This year’s Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix will be staged behind closed doors, a decision taken in light of the ongoing concerns caused by the coronavirus pandemic and informed primarily with the health and safety of all fans, staff, stakeholders & participants in mind.

While the absence of fans will be keenly felt, the focus in Baku has not deviated from delivering another round of world-class racing action to the watching world, with circuit and circuit facility preparations currently in full swing and nearing completion. 

In spite of the most challenging conditions to date, the BCC team is proud to confirm that the famous 20-Turn, 6.003km long street track will be ready to welcome the world’s greatest drivers back to Baku in June. It promises to be another incredible weekend of racing action in a city that has already delivered some of the most iconic moments in the sport’s history in its previous 4 instalments. 

Since its 2016 debut on the F1 calendar, Baku City Circuit has quickly become a fan & driver favourite, delivering some of the most exhilarating, dramatic and unpredictable racing in recent memory. With 4 different winners in each race so far, it is clear why the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix has become known as the Grand Prix where you can ‘expect the unexpected’.

BCC’s Executive Director, Arif Rahimov, commented earlier: “We are delighted to confirm that we are on track and ready to welcome the F1 family back to Azerbaijan this summer. While we will dearly miss our amazing fans this year, we are proud of the fact we are still able to stage such a major event in our beautiful city under such challenging circumstances. Our main priority continues to be the health and safety of everyone working & participating at the event, whilst still delivering an awesome spectacle to for the world to savour watching from home. The message from Baku is clear: preparations are on-track and on time and we can’t wait to showcase our amazing race and city to the world again next month.”
