AZERBAIJAN’S CULTURAL HERITAGE IN THE INTERNATIONAL MEDIA SPOTLIGHT AHEAD OF THE GRAND PRIX

On 23 September, ahead of the milestone Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Baku City Circuit organised its traditional media tour for representatives of international media.

The tour brought together journalists from Sky Sports F1, Xinhua News Agency, Reuters Photo, Formula 1 Italy, Kazinform, Car Magazine Brasil and other international media outlets. As part of the programme, they had the opportunity to discover Azerbaijan’s rich cultural heritage and the traditional art of carpet weaving.

At the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum, journalists learned about the history of carpet weaving, the distinctive features of different carpet-weaving schools, as well as traditional approaches to patterns, colours and composition. They also explored the museum’s collection and discovered the diversity of Azerbaijani carpet art.

A carpet-weaving masterclass was a special part of the programme. Journalists watched local artisans at work before trying traditional weaving techniques themselves. The participants were able to take the carpet pieces they created home as a souvenir from Baku.

This year, international journalists visiting Baku to cover the Grand Prix have shown strong interest not only in the action on the track, but also in Azerbaijan’s culture, history and national heritage. Exploring the city and its traditions gives international media representatives an opportunity to experience another side of Baku and share these impressions with their audiences back home.

The milestone Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix will take place in Baku from 24 to 26 September.
