Max Verstappen produced a masterful drive on the streets of Baku to win the Formula 1 Qatar Airways Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2025. This marked the Dutch driver’s second career victory in Baku.
The Red Bull Racing driver started from pole position, led all 51 laps, and crossed the finish line more than 14 seconds clear of Mercedes’ George Russell. Williams driver Carlos Sainz claimed third place, celebrating his first podium with the team.
Young Mercedes talent Kimi Antonelli finished fourth, while Racing Bulls driver Liam Lawson secured a career-best fifth. Verstappen’s teammate Yuki Tsunoda crossed the line in sixth, delivering one of Red Bull Racing’s strongest results of the season.
McLaren’s Lando Norris finished seventh, reducing the gap to his teammate and championship leader Oscar Piastri to 25 points. Piastri, however, retired on the opening lap after an accident, ending his streak of 42 consecutive points finishes.
Ferrari drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc brought home valuable points, denying McLaren the chance to secure the Constructors’ Championship title in Baku. Isack Hadjar of Racing Bulls completed the top 10.
The trophies were presented by Eldar Azizov, Head of Baku City Executive Authority; Farid Gayibov, Minister of Youth and Sports; Anar Alakbarov, President of the Azerbaijan Automobile Federation; and Magsud Farzullayev, General Director of Baku City Circuit Operations Company.
After the Baku race, Oscar Piastri continues to lead the Drivers’ Championship with 324 points, followed by his teammate Lando Norris on 299 points. Max Verstappen’s victory in the Azerbaijani capital brings him closer to the leaders with 255 points.
Once again, the Baku City Circuit thrilled fans with drama and excitement, cementing its reputation as one of the most spectacular and unpredictable races on the calendar.
