Norris wins Dutch Grand Prix to claim second consecutive victory

McLaren driver Lando Norris won the Dutch Grand Prix to claim his second consecutive victory. Championship leader Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes) finished second, with George Russell (Mercedes) completing the podium in third.

The first round after the summer break was a special one for Zandvoort, with the Dutch Grand Prix making its final appearance on the Formula 1 calendar. The grandstands were packed throughout the weekend, with around 300,000 fans attending across the three days.

Mercedes and McLaren set the pace throughout the weekend. George Russell topped Sprint Qualifying and went on to win the Sprint, while Norris was fastest in the main qualifying session to claim his second consecutive pole position. Russell lined up alongside him on the front row, with Antonelli and Oscar Piastri starting from the second row.

Norris held the lead at the start, while Antonelli moved up to second. The biggest incident of the opening lap involved Max Verstappen. The Red Bull driver ran onto the grass on the exit of a corner, lost control of his car and crashed into the barrier, bringing out the red flags.

After a 28-minute delay, the race resumed with a standing restart. Antonelli passed Norris to take the lead, while Piastri overtook Russell for third.

Antonelli remained in front after the first round of pit stops. Meanwhile, the Ferrari drivers began making their way forward, with Charles Leclerc passing Piastri on lap 34 before Lewis Hamilton also found a way past the Australian.

The battle for victory intensified in the second half of the race. After the next round of pit stops, Hamilton found himself ahead of Antonelli and Norris on worn Hard tyres. Antonelli, on fresher rubber, was preparing to attack the Ferrari driver, but Norris had also closed right up to the leading pair. On lap 54, the Briton passed Antonelli before overtaking Hamilton to reclaim the lead.

A Virtual Safety Car was deployed shortly afterwards following Esteban Ocon's retirement. The leaders took the opportunity to pit, and after the restart Antonelli quickly closed in on Russell on fresh Soft tyres. Mercedes instructed Russell to let his team-mate through, promoting Antonelli to second.

Norris remained in control to the chequered flag and secured his second consecutive victory. Antonelli finished second to extend his championship lead, while Russell held off Hamilton to take the final place on the podium.
