BCC Academy Hosts ‘Small Steps to a Great Opportunity’ Career Fair

FORMULA 1 AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX

On Friday 5th October, Baku City Circuit Operations Company (BCC) and the American Chamber of Commerce in Azerbaijan (AmCham Azerbaijan) jointly hosted the ‘Small Steps to a Great Opportunity’ Career Fair.

The event brought together approximately 40 leading Azerbaijani companies and organisations as they presented their internship and job opportunities to students and jobseekers.

Irana Ahmadova, BCC’s Head of HR and Workforce, welcomed all companies participating in the fair and thanked them for their support to the younger generations: “The BCC Academy plays a consistenly indispensable role in the personal development of our younger generation by conducting a variety of regular training sessions and events – a truly significant contribution to Azerbaijan’s national youth policy. Today’s career fair provides a platform for young jobseekers to establish first contact with representatives of businesses they may wish to work for and to learn more about their internship opportunities and recruiting procedures as well as giving them a chance to submit their CV’s to a company directly.

The majority of the BCC staff consists of young specialists many of whom began their work for us as volunteers. In particular, a group of 50 active volunteers from the inaugural 2016 Formula 1 race in Azerbaijan were hired as staff for the  following year’s race having demonstrated a suitably high performance level at work. This past year we attracted even more volunteers with 75 employees directly recruited from their volunteer roles for positions in the sporting operations, workforce, transport, venue and media operations’ teams for the 2018 Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

The Executive Director of AmCham Azerbaijan, Natavan Mammadova also welcomed this gathering of business representatives and said: “We are pleased to see how local businesses are improving their quality of HR management through using best practice in this area. In particular. I would like to acknowledge the contribution of AmCham’s HR Committee.  I believe that today’s fair will become an effective platform for both businesses (most of which are members of AmCham) and jobseekers.”

The AmCham HR Committee Chair and BP’s HR Manager in Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, Elnara Mammadova, highlighted the importance of the career fair and noted: “A career fair is an excellent opportunity for employers and job seekers to have direct contact. In addition, this is a unique chance for young professionals with a drive for self-development and self-realization to use this platform to give them the opportunity to learn more about internship programs and the hiring process with various companies.”

More than 900 people visited the career fair and took one more step towards their career development. Most of them had previous volunteer experience at the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
