Historic Win at Silverstone: Lando Norris Shines on Home Turf

Round 12 of the 2025 FIA Formula 1 World Championship unfolded at Britain’s iconic Silverstone Circuit, marking the midpoint of the season. The atmosphere was electric, with over 500,000 fans filling the grandstands across the weekend — setting a new all-time attendance record in F1 history.

Friday and Saturday’s free practice sessions saw strong performances from British favourites Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris. But when it came to qualifying, it was Max Verstappen who took pole position for Red Bull. McLaren’s young talent Oscar Piastri secured P2, while Norris and Mercedes’ George Russell lined up on the second row. Ferrari’s drivers, meanwhile, could only manage the third row.

Unpredictable weather on Sunday played a defining role in race strategy. The race began on wet tyres, but pit stops and a safety car period turned the tide. Although Piastri briefly led the race, a 10-second time penalty and a poorly timed pit stop cost him the advantage. Seizing the opportunity, Lando Norris surged ahead on his home track and claimed his second win of the season in front of an electrified crowd.

With both McLaren drivers finishing on the podium, the team celebrated their fifth double podium of the season — a remarkable achievement.

One of the standout moments of the race came from Nico Hülkenberg, who delivered a sensational performance for Sauber. In his 239th Grand Prix start, the German driver earned his first-ever podium finish, marking Sauber’s first podium since 2012 — a proud moment for both driver and team.

For Lewis Hamilton, however, the weekend brought disappointment as his 11-year podium streak at Silverstone came to an end.

As a result of Sunday’s race, McLaren maintained their lead in the Constructors’ Championship. In the Drivers’ standings, Oscar Piastri now holds an 8-point lead over teammate Lando Norris, with Max Verstappen sitting third.

Following a three-week summer break, the season resumes with back-to-back races in Belgium (Spa) and Hungary (Budapest).
