Volunteer Centre for the Grand Prix of Europe is now open

BCC invites volunteers to play their part in history by participating in a key role in the delivery of the 2016 FORMULA 1 GRAND PRIX OF EUROPE, the 8th round of the 2016 FIA Formula One World Championship.

Baku City Circuit is looking for energetic and reliable people to create a friendly atmosphere during the race weekend of June 17-19, 2016. The Volunteer Programme has been running since its official launch during the Six-Months-To-Go celebrations that took place on December 19, 2015. Mr Azad Rahimov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Youth and Sports, commented on today’s announcement: “Being a volunteer at the first ever Formula One race in Azerbaijan is a wonderful chance for anyone wishing to become a part of this thrilling global motorsport event taking place in our capital city. We have one of Europe’s youngest populations and becoming a volunteer will be a tremendously exciting opportunity for our young people to contribute to our country’s sporting history.”

A survey conducted nationwide amongst 1,001 respondents via face-to-face interviews by SIAR Research and Consulting Group in 2015, found that over 70% of Azerbaijan’s population believe that volunteers play an important role in the delivery of this major sporting event that will play a strong role in positioning the country on the world stage. Furthermore, in a positive sign for the fledgling race, half of Baku’s residents - of whom the majority are under 34 - indicated that they are keen to be a volunteer at the 2016 Grand Prix of Europe.

BCC is recruiting 5,000 volunteers to play a part in the inaugural F1 race in Azerbaijan this summer. The Volunteer Centre will conduct hundreds of interviews on a daily basis to find the right candidates. Currently more than 7,000 hopefuls have already applied online for selection.

Volunteers can expect to be given key roles during the 2016 FORMULA 1 GRAND PRIX OF EUROPE, including welcoming guests and dignitaries, providing assistance to spectators and the media, etc.
