Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix Day One: Two Free Practice Sessions Completed

The first and second free practice sessions of the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix took place in Baku on the opening day of the race weekend. All 11 teams participated, with each session lasting one hour.

Mercedes driver George Russell set the fastest time in a closely contested first practice session, clocking 1:45.387. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen finished second with a time of 1:45.787, while Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc was third in 1:45.791. Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli was forced to end his session early after his car developed a hydraulic issue.

George Russell was once again fastest in the second free practice session, setting a time of 1:43.347. His Mercedes teammate Kimi Antonelli finished second in 1:43.899, while Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was third with a time of 1:44.174.

The second session also saw its share of incidents. The session was red-flagged after Racing Bulls driver Arvid Lindblad crashed into the barriers. Haas driver Oliver Bearman was unable to continue due to an engine issue.

The third free practice session will take place tomorrow at 12:30.
